How to view documents and progress referrals to the next step

This article covers how to view documents and progress the referral to the next step in the referral management process:

To do this, you can

  1. Select the referral.
  2. View or download the referral documents.
  3. Progress the referral to the next step.
  4. View the referral timeline updates.

1. Select the referral in the referral dashboard

Select a referral by searching for the patient's first name, surname, reference number or NHS Number. Note: The referral reference number is included on the email confirmation note will be sent to referrers.

2. View or download referral documents

You can view referral documents from the menu section on the left-hand side by clicking on ‘Documents or from the last five documents section on the bottom right of the patient's record. This is where you can view email processing and any supporting referral documents submitted as attachments with the referral.

The title, date, and document type (e.g., email attachment and email body) are specified here. You can also preview or download the documents. The icons for this are highlighted below.

3. Progress to the next step

Once an email referral and the associated documents have been reviewed, you can progress the referral to the next step on the referral dashboard, as shown below.

To progress the referral to the next step in the referral management process, click the relevant step under “Move forwards,” as shown in the screenshot below. You will be asked to add a note/ explanation as to why you have taken this action.

4. Update the referral timeline

Once a referral has been moved to the next step, this change will appear on the referral timeline. For example, you can now see the referral is under “Clinical awaiting more information” below.
